Description

The human conscience was of lifelong interest to St Alphonsus, who conveys his thoughts on the subject in the first treatise of his Theologia Moralis.  Alphonsus outlines steps in reaching moral decisions using principles that guarantee the dignity of a personal conscience.

In this first English translation of the 1905 Latin version featuring comments by Alphonsian scholar Leonard Gaude, moral theologian Raphael Gallagher CSsR, has produced a faithful, pastoral version of the treatise and provided commentaries to make 18th-century text relevant today.
